Laundry Washing

Laundress Green is so named as it was used by university laundresses to wash the laundry. At the time, the Cam was the best source of water for washing and clothes would be laid out on the grassy banks to dry in the sun. Nearby Laundress Lane takes it name from this activity.

It is also the location for punt rollers allowing enthusiastic punters to exit the river and transport their punt across the short stretch of land from the mill pond water to return to the Cam, avoiding the sluice gate.
